Welcome to Biomaterial Science Laboratory
Our research team works on various aspects concerning the engineering of macromolecular materials for biomedical applications. We have 4 laboratories equipped for the analysis of mechanical, thermal, rheological and morphological properties of materials, as well as a class 100,000 clean room equipped with class 10,000 modules and a laboratory for chemical synthesis. We also share several facilities of the Department of Engineering for Innovation of the University of Salento, where our Laboratory is located, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM and eSEM), atomic force microscopy, confocal microscopy, NMR (including solid state) and FTIR (including imaging). Currently the team involves 15 people and collaborates with several Italian and foreign partners, including:
- San Raffaele Hospital, Milan (Dr. A. Quattrini, Dr. G. Martino)
- University of Naples ‘Federico II’ (Prof. P.A. Netti)
- Institute for Composite and Biomedical Materials, National Research Council, Naples (Prof. L. Ambrosio)
- University of Brighton, UK (Dr. Matteo Santin)
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA (Prof. I.V. Yannas)
- Weizmann Institute, Israel (Prof. M. Schwartz)
- L. Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology, Vienna (Prof. H. Redl)
- Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA (Prof. M. Spector)
